MSM Supplement Experiment: Can MSM Improve Your Hair, Nails and Skin?

Submitted by on January 9, 2010 – 2:42 pm2 Comments

After reading hundreds of positive reviews and raves at message forums
(Skincaretalk.com and Essentialdayspa.com) and blogs, I decided to jump on the bandwagon and start taking MSM supplements myself.

Who doesn’t want stronger & softer hair, healthier skin and nicer nails.. to go with your stylish clothes and accessories?

“MSM (Methyl Sulfonyl Methane), is a nutritional ORGANIC form of sulfur. It is a natural occurring vital nutrient, which is lost through the processing of our food. MSM is not a drug, herb or stimulant. It is completely safe, odorless, and non-toxic.” Source: Aomega

I’ve been doing a lot of research these past few weeks and I’m impressed by the improvements of people’s appearance and mental being. It seems like MSM is an all-in-one supplement that repairs the tissues and cells in your body, getting rid of the toxins, resulting in a revitalized body!

Here is a list of what MSM supplements can do:

Increase alertness and ability to concentrate. In fact, it is acting more quickly than medications more typically prescribed for depression.

Effective in reducing gastrointestinal upset, such as diarreah, constipation, nausea, etc.

Reduce and often enitrely eliminate pain from arthritis and injuries.

Improved health and growth of hair. Your hair grows like crazy, becomes supple and looks more healthy.

Relieves skin problems, skin problems, leathery cracked skin, wrinkles, and skin itching. MSM also reduces scar tissue, moles, brown spots, black spots, skin tumors, cuts, and burns. I read at forums that it improves hyperpigmentation!

Reduces symptoms associated with allergies, including respiratory congestion, itching, mucoid discharges, and inflammation, as well as general discomfort.

Helps many bodily functions such as body’s ability to produce insulin, helping the liver produce more choline (helps metabolize fat), increasing the body’s ability to metabolize carbohydrates, and increasing the speed of healing of wounds. MSM can make you lose weight.

There are many more benefits to include but that would require me to write a whole book :) But anyway, MSM sounds like a miracle pill and I have to be a part of it! It may be the solution to my dry hair, uneven skin tone and slightly brittle nails.

Starting an MSM Supplement Experiment

I bought MSM supplements and I want to do a test on how well it works (and if it really works!) so that you guys will know if this ‘miracle pill’ lives up to its claims.

I’ll be writing about my experiment at least once a week.

Harvest Moon’s Pure MSM Vegetarian Capsules (ebay UK)

According to other people’s experiences, if you want to fully benefit from MSM (or other vitamins and minerals for that matter), you have to buy at least 97% PURE MSM (99.9% is even better) along with Vitamin C pills which will increase the efficiency of the supplement.

I bought a pack with 959mg MSM with vegetarian caps (much better than other fillers that slows the whole process) and 1000mg Super C-Complex Vitamin C tablets. It’s best to start slowly with 1000mg and work up the dosage each week (1000 – 2000 – 3000 – 4000).

I tested the purity of the MSM like this:

“Empty the contents of one capsule or one half teaspoon of MSM powder into a clear glass of water. The MSM will immediately sink to the bottom, and dissolve within a few minutes. All the contents of capsules or powder containing fillers will not sink to the bottom, and not all of the material will dissolve. You can stir it or not stir it, either way the results will be the same: the MSM will immediately sink to the bottom and dissolve and the other “stuff” will float to the top.
Granted, this test doesn’t tell you exactly what is there but it will surely tell you what isn’t there-pure MSM in any form will not float.” Source: Longhaircareforum.com

Yup, looks good. The powder dissolved instantly and sunk to the bottom of the glass

See you tomorrow!

I am so intrigued and going to stay tuned. I would love for my hair to grow like crazy as I am suffering from post baby hair loss. Some parts of my hair look like I am starting over from scratch. Never mind the wonderful skin benefits! Can't wait to read more.

I've heard it takes longer to see any improvements with the hair but it will happen :) people have been reporting crazy hair growth which can annoy those who dye their hair ;) It's been 5 days and I've noticed a few improvements with my skin and nails. Will update you in a couple of days!
